Back on April 17th, we ran the second to last webinar in the All Med Pro and PDI educational series ‘Staying out of Trouble in 2022/23’.
In the webinar, Brian Westbury and Melonie Prebble discussed the importance of effective patient communication for obtaining consent and ensuring safety in dentistry. They highlighted that effective communication is essential for dental practices, as it impacts patient satisfaction, reduces complaints, and increases the likelihood of patients accepting treatment.
During the webinar, Mel addressed common communication issues that dentists face, including but not limited to:
- Dentists often put out messages that they assume are going to be understood
- Dentists use dental jargon that patients may not know the meaning of
- Dentists assume that nodding means yes
- Dentists often talk with the patient lying down or with their back to the patient
